I was upset to read this morning in the EU Observer Commissioner Grybauskaite’s position on an EU tax. She says that we need it but it is too early at the same time. I think the Commission should be more courageous on promoting new ideas on how to finance the European budget and leave the more populistic approach to the Council.
But more harmful are her arguments against ecological taxes. She degrades them as a new bad fashion – as eco-mania. Obviously Commissioner Grybauskaite does not understand the dangers of climate change (including the macro-economic effects so well-described by the Stern report) and that we have to hurry up to change energy politicies and start to introduce eco taxes.
Financial politics have a great influence on the way we can manage the introduction of renewables and clean energy supply.
